I believe that we have a built-in yearning for nature’s beauty. We seek it special places - in Bald Cyprus swamp reflections, in the seashore’s tidal pools where Reddish egrets dance, at Pitcher Plant bogs where the plants eat animals, or through a glass window watching hummingbirds dance at home. We yearn for the sweet spots, the soul quenching places of beauty where we merge with nature - so moved we can be brought to tears. That realization hit home one afternoon twelve years ago while I walked along Mobile Bay, a flock of Ibis passed right in front of me. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen and rocked me to my core. I set about to capture their beauty and the quest has evolved over the years, taking me on journeys to photograph not only our local birds, but also to travel to other countries in pursuit of capturing their beauty and sharing it with others.Another venue to express my appreciation for birds and nature opened when I was invited to be in Sue Walker’s Writers in Nature poetry group. Dr. Walker inspired me to write a book of poems based on my images, South Mobile Birds, which rose to #1 on Amazon Poetry. The second, South Mobile Wildlife included poems and images of both local birds and wildlife. This, the third book of poems and images, South Mobile and Beyond expands the scope from our beloved South Alabama to other countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Australia and Central America. I hope you enjoy this book that contains some of my favorite poems written about the creatures that inspire the words - from the exotic jaguar in the Pantanal region of Brazil to the backyard thrush in Mobile Alabama.
